For hundreds of years, people just grinned and bore it; they had to because there were no effectual ways of getting rid of them.</p>

<p>They lived in the stored clothing, the furniture, the bedding and the houses of the rich and poor alike and because houses were located so close together, families were larger and people were in and out of each others houses, you could not eradicate a bed bug infestation for long.</p>
<p>Then came the bombing of European cities in the Second World War 1939-1945 and numerous inner cities were unsafe, so the authorities decided to take the opportunity to flatten the inner city slums and begin again. A similar programme was began in America, but not because of bombing.</p>
<p>The authorities pulled down hundreds of millions of houses and made billions of rats, mice, bed bugs, fleas and other nasties homeless. In fact, rat poison and a new miracle pesticide, DDT, were used widely in the clean up. By the end of the Forties or during the Fifties, bed bugs were just about eradicated from the Western World.</p>
<p>The Baby Boomer generation was the first one never to have been bothered by bed bugs. This happy situation lasted until the mid-Nineties, when increased long haul travel and increased immigration permitted bed bugs to hitch lifts back to the West. These unwelcome hitch hikers usually returned on garments that had been packed away in suitcases.</p>
<p>And so here we are today, in a state of affairs where the West&#8217;s major inner cities have a bed bug problem of epidemic proportions. Bed bugs are being passed around from person to person on all forms of public transport but particularly buses, trains and taxis and anywhere where individuals congregate, but particularly hotels, cinemas and waiting rooms.</p>
<p>So, here are a few tips on how to avoid infesting your home with bed bugs. If you stop in hotels a few nights or one night at a time, just unpack what you require to at any one time. In other words, live out of your suitcase.</p>
<p>If you are on a longer vacation, by all means, unpack everything, but keep your suitcase closed and have all your clothes boil washed, dry cleaned or tumble-dried on &#8216;HOT&#8217; before you repack them to go home.</p>
<p>If this cannot be done because of the sort of cloth, examine all the seams, hems, pockets, cuffs and collars and blow them with the hair-dryer on &#8216;HOT&#8217;. The hair-dryer is not anywhere near as effective, but all stages of a bed bug&#8217;s life cycle are killed by seven minutes exposure to temperatures above 45C or 115F.</p>
<p>If you cannot heat-treat your clothes before you leave the hotel, seal them up in plastic bags and treat them when you get home &#8211; preferably in a laundrette or dry cleaners.</p>
<p>What do you do about your overcoat, if you mix with people every day on the bus or at work? This is a tough one. Bed bugs are resilient to all types of insect killer, which is why we are having this epidemic, so you will literally have to examine your overcoat each time you come home or buy one that you can put in the tumble-dryer every night.</p>
<p>One bed bug can lay 300 eggs and last for a year without feeding, so you cannot know that you have not got bed bugs, you can only say that you have not seen any &#8211; yet.</p>

I worked long hours in an office at a computer and most of my friends reasoned that this was the cause of my diminishing eyesight. I merely put the spectacles on like everyone else does and got on with the job.</p>

<p>However, ten years later, my eyesight took an abrupt turn for the worse and I was diagnosed with premature senile cataracts, at least that is how they translated it into English from the Thai as I had by now married a Thai lady and moved to her village in rural northern Thailand. I went to a very decent hospital in Pattaya known as the Bangkok Pattaya Hospital and one of their senior eye surgeons examined me.</p>
<p>She confirmed the diagnosis and added that it was to be expected that the other eye would develop a cataract at some time in the future although there was no sign of it at that moment. The next day she carried out an operation to take out the lens from my eye and replace it with a plastic one.</p>
<p>The operation is quite painless although it can become a bit scary and lasts between thirty and sixty minutes. Mine was &#8216;a long one&#8217;, said the surgeon at forty minutes. After an hour&#8217;s recuperation, a nurse showed my wife and me how to care for my eye and I was permitted to go. My eye was taped up, so I could not see out of it until that evening when my wife put the drops in.</p>
<p>Everything was so bright and clear. It was truly amazing. I had to keep going back for post-operative supervision for four weeks and then we went back to the village. I cannot express how wonderful it was to be able to see clearly again without glasses after what I realized was more than a decade.</p>
<p>The eye or the brain or both take a a little time to adjust to the new lens and your eyesight improves for a period of time which can be from six to twenty-four months. Within six months, my other eye began to pack up. It had borne the strain of two eyes for long enough and now that there was a working replacement, it decided to quit fighting the impending cataract and gave up.</p>
<p>I was not back to square one because my plastic eye was far better that the other one had been in similar circumstances. So, about six months later, I went back to Pattaya to have the other one done. The procedure was the same with the same surgeon. I went back the next day for the check up, but it was a long wait for my turn and the time came around for my drops. My wife put them in but as I removed my protective eye-covering, I noticed the English-language newspaper on the table in front of me.</p>
<p>That was not unusual, but what was certainly curious was that I could read it &#8211; without specs for the first time in fifteen years! I could see the look of horror on my fellow patients&#8217; faces as they looked into my eye so I put the covering back on. (After the operation the eye swells up and it as black as an eight-ball with a blood-red dot in the middle &#8211; it is quite frightening).</p>
<p>When I went in to see the surgeon and told her about the newspaper, she smiled. &#8220;Yes&#8221;, she said, &#8220;that was my surprise, I put a long-distance lens in last time and a reading lens in this time. Your brain will decide what you are looking at and use the right eye&#8221;.</p>
<p>She had not told me because a small percentage of brains cannot accomplish this trick, which is why some people cannot take to variofocals too.</p>
<p>That was a year ago and both plastic eyes and brain have &#8216;bedded in&#8217; nicely. I can read a book and drive a car without specs and my world is so brilliant. I still wonder at the brightness everyday. I had not noticed the light getting gradually dimmer for fifteen years.</p>

<p>Don&#8217;t begin hating some exercises because you might become liking them after a while. You don&#8217;t have to resume to your favorite exercises either. Try mixing them with some new ones and your body will be in shape in no time.</p>
<p>Maybe you don&#8217;t like to add up new exercises but it&#8217;s very important to keep your body in shape by adding something new from time to time.</p>

In treating external hemorrhoids, the main concern is to soothe the itchiness and to ease out the pain. For fast soothing relief using natural alternatives or home treatments, many people try the Sitz baths. This home remedy treatment requires you to sit down or dip your lower body on a tub filled with warm water. This will help you clean and soothe the itchy part. Washing with warm water also helps a lot. Some people even add a bit of white vinegar for fast healing. </p>
<p>You can repeat a sitz bath two or three times a day as needed.  You don&#8217;t have to do it for a long period of time, they usually last about ten or fifteen minutes. <p>Being happy more often than you have been is an incredibly difficult task to achieve-until you learn the way of it once you know how and then in keeping aware of what you have discovered. Yet, I still say that with meditation it can be accomplished. The path that you have selected that led you to your present situation was not a few days or weeks in the making, but a long and strenuous path that has extended through many years.</p>
<p>In truth of it is it has taken you a life-time to become the way you are today. It has also taken you that long to gain what you have achieved, to possess, and to arrive at your present condition. By taking the time to meditate and contemplate who you are, and whether what you have in your life is truly what you desire, If you are completely satisfied with the way your life is going, congratulations-do more of what you have been doing and you will acquire more of what you already have in your life.</p>
<p>But if who you are, what you have, and your present situation are below what you want or perhaps varies from what you long for, you have to start meditating about some basic alterations you will need to make in your life. Failure to make those alterations will find you continuing to seek the things you really would like in your life as the years fly past.</p>
<p>Because some of this that you are reading will seem impossible, ridiculous, or to you maybe even foolish and it may in the beginning offend you, causing you to ridicule what you are reading and maybe even make you feel you need to reject what you have read. I really must suggest to you that prior to rejecting how meditation can assist you through your life, ask yourself whether or not you want it to be true-then for your benefit please give yourself the opportunity to see it as true.</p>
<p>In this day and age with all the things we have to deal with in our lives it is very hard to stay on an upbeat level and be happy all the time, But just by taking a few moments a day just meditating by yourself will help you to put things in perspective where instead of being unhappy about the situation you are in, you can find a way to find the happy part of being unhappy.</p>
