Capturing a Special Time: A Baby Record

The time in which a baby is growing up is a time to be meticulously documented, as these times fly by so quickly. Once the baby has grown to adulthood, a great gift would be to present him or her with his or her baby record, which could be kept in the form of a scrapbook. If you are a parent who would like to keep a baby record, there are a variety of ideas that you could implement.

Baby Record Idea #1: Start From the Very Beginning

When you think that you might be pregnant, chances are that you will take a home pregnancy test first. If you really want to start the baby record from the beginning, take a picture of the positive test result, and place that at the front of the scrapbook with a heading such as “Where it all began…”

Baby Record Idea #2: Documenting the Pregnancy Month by Month

From the very first month that you are pregnant, have a picture taken of yourself, preferably in the same location each month. If you have sonogram pictures taken that you would like to include next to the pictures, then that is another great way to show the development of the baby before it is born.

Baby Record Idea #3: The Delivery

Now, you need not get too graphic with delivery details. However, a nice addition to any baby record would be a section that includes pictures of the doctors and nurses that delivered the baby. If possible, have each one of them write a little note with advice for the baby, and place that next to the picture of the person that wrote it.

Baby Record Idea #4: The First Year

The baby record should also feature highlights from the first year of the baby’s life. Include such milestones as the first word, and first steps. Conclude the baby record with the events of the baby’s birthday, with the last page mentioning a poignant quote such as “Today is the first day of the rest of your life. We love you!”

When to Give the Baby Record to Your Child

There are a variety of times that you could choose in which to present your now-adult child with his or her baby record. Two especially poignant times would be either as a wedding present, or as a baby shower gift. You will know when the time is best, and your child will certainly appreciate it.
