Is There A Cure For Hearing Loss?
There are ways to treat ailments such as poor eyesight, aching joints or hearing loss. But finding a cure for either or any type of ailment is not a reality at this point in time. Although there is no cure for hearing loss, there are ways to treat it, and only the person suffering from hearing loss can truly know what to do about there ailment. Because no cure for hearing loss is present, there are ways to treat it. Before you know what you should do, it is best to know the background on hearing loss; what causes it, and how it could possibly be prevented. Simply put, hearing loss is the reduction in sound generated through the ear. The causes of hearing loss come from a number of ways, but the two main types of hearing loss are conductive and sensor neural (sometimes referred to as neural) hearing loss. Types of Hearing Loss Conductive hearing loss is when the oscilla (tiny bones) within the ear are broken, or there is something that is blocking the canal that leads to the middle ear, or eardrum, thus leading to a reduction of sound. This type of hearing loss can be repaired, by something as extreme as reconstructive surgery, or something as simple as cleaning out your ears more frequently. The other, more serious type of hearing loss is sensor neural hearing loss. In this type, the auditory nerve that goes from the ear to the auditory cortex of the brain is either damaged or completely missing. This causes an extreme or even absence of sound. When this occurs, it is permanent. The causes of sensor neural hearing loss are viral infection, birth defects, drug abuse, or just prolonged exposure to loud music or noise. Treatment Options As stated previously, there is no known cure for hearing loss. Researchers and physicians are continuing to work on a cure for hearing loss, but until they do, the best thing to do is to visit your physician with choices on how to treat your ailment. Devices such as hearing aids are becoming more advanced, which enable sound to be increased when inserted in the ear. If you are completely deaf, either in one ear or both, the best thing to do is to consult a speech pathologist on how to use sign language, and other forms of communication. Until there is a cure for hearing loss, the best way to take care of it is to acknowledge, and work with your ailment. Support from friends and family is also a big help if you are suffering from this, and can act as your own cure for hearing loss.
