In this fast-paced world, you are finding that life is getting more and more stressful. As a result, you go to the gym to stretch and exercise your stress away. While this is very healthy and indeed should be encouraged, have you ever thought to move beyond stretching, trying meditation to reduce your stress?

How to Meditate

Now, in order to successfully combat stress, you have to know where the source of all your tension is. True, you can hold tension in your muscles, and stretching as well as massages are good ways to release that tension. However, you sometimes need to move beyond stretching, and focus on the true center of stress: your mind.

Now, the mind is indeed a very powerful instrument, and as that is where all of our thoughts are created, so are all of our worries, and worrying leads to stress. If you find yourself having trouble sleeping at night because your thoughts are racing, it is time to move beyond stretching and clear you mind through meditation.

Begin by selecting a place that is free from distraction. This can be any place in your home, just as long as you can ensure that you won’t be disturbed. Once you have found the right place, pick a comfortable chair (preferably a recliner) and sit down. Be sure that you are wearing comfortable clothing as well.

Although the point is to move beyond stretching and focus more on just relaxing, you can first stretch your arms and legs a bit, as you will be sitting in a stationary position for a while. Next, get a CD of soothing music, preferable nature sounds, and turn it on. Although you should not be distracted, you should have some music on in the background, as it helps to calm your mind.

You can also add incense to your meditation routine, because some scents are wonderful for relaxing people. Next, take deep breaths in and out. This helps to improve your circulation. Then, just try to focus on emptying your mind of the day’s worries. You can do this for a few minutes to start out with, and then increase you meditation time if you would like.

There are many different ways to move beyond stretching and exercise by shifting the focus to meditation. Whichever way you choose, be sure to have a place that is nice and quiet, and some time set aside each day to clear your mind of stressful thoughts.
