Get in Shape by Playing Golf

Everybody knows why you should exercise to maintain good physical health, however numerous people simply have no wish to exercise. Often you will hear the excuses are that they have no time to exercise or it is too much hassle trying to find something that is interesting, and not boring. Conversely, there are also people that are conscious of the growing problem with an overweight and obese population and they want to do some exercises.

Most people do not like the idea of just doing exercise for the sake of keeping fit. So they look for ideas about a sport to take up to keep in shape, but if you are middle aged or a senior, you will not be considering taking up triathlons or football. Golf, though, is a sport that can cater to those both young and old, and male or female.

Taking up the Sport of Golf to Get Fit

Golf, as a sport, is quite easy to get into in the sense that you don’t have to prepare for weeks to start – like a marathon. Once you get started with golf, you will find that it is highly entertaining and fun. This is the important part to actually going out and doing some exercise, because when you like what you are doing, you will be surprised at how often you look for reasons to play. This is why golf has emerged as a sport that provides numerous previously inactive folk with a good justification to go out and get started with some exercise.

In the Beginning

From the outset it is better to start playing shorter golf courses, maybe 9 holes, until you can advance your overall physical abilities to let you to be capable of handling the physical requirements for a full’-holes. Because we are discussing golf as a sport, we need to discard the use of golf carts because this takes away the benefits of golf to get fit. This means that it is required to have the physical strength to be able to walk the entire golf course before you can think about playing a round of golf. It may turn out that for your first few games you can only play a handful of the holes. This may seem disappointing but by constantly playing, you will be able to develop your stamina and strength to allow you to walk and golf all of the holes.

Developing Your Fitness Level

Generally, golf is rather a good sport for permitting you to slowly get started with an exercise routine. You will no doubt be taking golf lessons when first starting to learn golf which will allow you to start off gradually by concentrating on your golfswing. You will start to develop your flexibility and golf muscles at the same time you practice your golf swing.

Even if some individuals say that you can play golf when you are overweight and unfit, this is not accurate. True, you could get around the course in a golf cart and just get down to take a rigid swing to move the ball along the fairway a little distance at a time, but this is not what golf is about. If you are even just a little bit interested in improving your health and fitness through golfing, you will want to ultimately play golf competently. Once you can start scoring low and get competitive, you will look forward to working on your fitness and flexibility so that you can get improve even more.

If you enjoy playing golf then you will not mind getting up early to go to the course. If you really want to take your game to the next level, you will not mind the little bit of effort to do some exercising to work on your golf muscles and a flexibility schedule to develop your suppleness. Once you are hooked on golf you will find that as you want to improve your golf swing you will furthermore be working on getting fit for golf and staying fit.
