Playing Golf In Any Weather

by Harrison Picardo

Golf is a sport that is typically associated with good weather and summer. Think about it, whenever you see a golf tournament on television, it is being played in mild weather. Since the sport is played outdoors, it is understandable that inclement weather might be a deterrent to the game. But this does not always have to be the case.

If you love the game but need or want to cut the costs associated with playing, off-season golf could be for you. Many golf courses accommodate game play during the off-seasons. This can be advantageous to you since most people only want to play when the weather is nice. When demand is low, prices tend to be low.

Since most people want to play golf when the weather is perfect, playing at other times of the year has the added advantage of meaning fewer people will be on the course. This means you can really take your time at each hole without worrying about holding up the team behind you, or having someone play through your game. It is much more enjoyable to be able to play the game at your own pace.

You are also much more likely to be able to improve your game if you play during inclement weather. The weather itself can act as a hazard. Learning to overcome wind conditions is an important part of golf.

Winter is no longer out of reach for golf fans. Many courses are open year round. You can buy fluorescent golf balls which make playing in the snow a possibility. Of course, you will have to consider the weather conditions and dress appropriately. But winter parkas are no longer bulky affairs which constrict your movement.

Another good way to get on the course for less, is to consider night-time play. Many courses are lighted for night time play, and you can find glow-in-the-dark golf balls for sale at many pro shops. There are also ball locators to help you find your ball if you have hit it in the rough or out of bounds.

In the event that you do decide to play during inclement weather you should make sure to prepare accordingly. Dress appropriately. Layers are often the answer regardless of the temperature. If you will be night-golfing it is advisable to bring along a flashlight. The only real issue is lightning. Get off the course if there is even the slightest chance of a lightning storm.

It can be quite enjoyable to play golf year-round. You have the added advantage of a less crowded course during the off-season, and can generally save some money too.
