Restoring Old Golf Clubs Brings Back Game Memories

There is just something about old golf clubs that make many people reluctant to part with them. Whether it was their first complete set, or ones given to them by their father or wife as gift, whenever they consider giving them up for that new set in the basement, memories pour out of the bag and they do not want to let them go.

Chances are it is not because they shot an exceptionally low score, in fact that is probably the reason they replaced their old golf clubs to begin with, but having them no longer around is something many golfers can not bear to do. For the ones that acquire a set of old golf clubs, it can be dream come true, if it there first set and they will spend whatever time is necessary to bring the shafts back to shiny perfection, polish the heads and have new grips put on to make them seem new again.

In some cases, golfers may prefer their old golf clubs over a new set, believing they have more game left in them. It is also difficult to replace some of the old wood heads on drivers, and it can take meticulous work to make them appear new again, but the time in restoring old golf clubs can be well worth the effort, once the job is done and the set appears to brand new. The old wood shafts seem to have more whip and less twist than many of the newer steel or graphite shafts and once a golfer grows up with wood, it is hard to make the switch.

Older Clubs Accompany Same Talent

As technology advanced the game of golf, many saw the future of golf changing, and their old golf clubs were not in the crystal ball. Ball construction was changing along with head design and the materials of which they are made changed as well. Golfers were being told that in order to strike the ball for better distance and more control, the newer balls would require newer clubs.

As people bought into the theory, they discarded their old golf clubs in hopes of seeing their game improve. Unfortunately, too late and possibly several hundreds of dollars later they found out the problem with their game was not due to the old golf clubs, rather it was due to their stance, their grip or their balance. They could score just as well with their old golf clubs as with new ones, if they only knew how to play the game.
