Anglesey Holidays
Anglesey is a large beautiful island located off the coast of North Wales in the United Kingdom. The island is located close to the Snowdonia National Park and the towns of Bangor and Caernarfon are located nearby. Anglesey is renowned for its beautiful beaches and self catering holidays and watersports are very popular.
Anglesey has a wealth of history with ancient sites such as Beaumaris Castle which is located in the town of Beaumaris on the islands east coast. Beaumaris Castle was built over 800 years ago during King Edward I’s of England’s reign. Beaumaris Castle was sadly never completed but is still considered to be one of the finest examples of its type in the world.
Anglesey has plenty of outdoor activities from coastal parks to visitor farms. Holyhead on the west coast of the island has two such parks located close by. The first is Penrhos Nature Reserve which is just a short drive from the town centre and allows you to see many of the islands native species up close.
Built at the time of the Holyheads’ breakwater The Breakwater Country Park reaches along the shores of Holyhead mountain. Take advantage of the many country walks taking in wonderful views of the port and mountain. If you feel fit enough walk over to South Stack, Anglesey’s primary lighthouse, which stands on its own rocky outcropping at the most western point of the island and can only be reached by crossing a narrow suspension bridge high above the raging sea below.
Anglesey has many terrific beaches so it’s no wonder that watersports are one of the most popular activities. On the south coast of the island is Rhosneigr, a small village that draws thousands of tourists each year eager to take advantage of its ideal position. Rhosneigr boasts two beaches and is perfect for a wide variety of watersports from sailing and canoeing to diving.
Anglesey is not just about self catering and there are many high quality hotels available. The Tre Ysgawen Hall Country House Hotel is located a short drive from the town of Llangefni close to the centre of the island. The Trearddur Bay Hotel is just minutes from Holyhead port and ideal as a stop over point and The Bulkeley Hotel is on the promenade at Beaumaris.
