Planning A Weekend At A Poconos Resort With Your Children
The beautiful Poconos Mountains in eastern Pennsylvania have for a long time been a favorite resort hotel and vacation destination for people looking for an affordable vacation. And why not? The mountains are easy to get to from almost anywhere in the northeastern US. They are conveniently located just several hours from both New York City and our nation’s capitol. This area offers amazing scenery, a host of outdoor activities and sufficient things for younger travelers to do.
There are a number of business owners throughout the Poconos area that offer a variety of activities that kids of all ages should have fun doing. You’ll find exciting things like horseback riding, cross country skiing, hiking, biking, swimming and camping. If you look hard enough, just about any outdoor activity that you could think of is offered some place in the Poconos mountains.
The region is also home to a number of family resorts that offer their own long list of child friendly activities. These resorts offer sparkling clean pools, playgrounds and scheduled activities for kids.
One of these resorts is the Great Wolf Lodge. This lodge has a ton of water based things for the kids. They have fun things like water slides, the lazy river, a wave pool and even a roller coaster of water. Every grandparent knows that kids love the water rides.
For more traditional vacationers, there’s also the Woodloch Resort. This resort, which sits on 100 acres of forest land, features lakeside fun during the warm months, including a busy splash park for younger people. In the cold months, the place features everything from ice skating to snow tubing to downhill skiing.
Adventurous people may look for other activities to do outside of the resort. Fortunately, the Poconos offers numerous other things to do.
The Eckley Mining Village is one of the favorite and most popular tourist stops in the area. This living history museum shows you what life was like at the time when Pennsylvania residents relied on strip mining pits to fuel the economy. The mining village features some hands on activities for visitors.
Another educational stop should be the Pocono Indian Museum. This is the only museum in northeastern Pennsylvania intended to present the history of the Delaware Indian. The museum looks back at the history of the Delaware Indians through displays of ancient artifacts, weapons and tools.
The museum is very educational. However, some parts of it might be surprising. The Pocono Indian Museum does not forget to detail the less than friendly interaction of the Delaware Indians with European settlers. In fact, it took around 100 years or thereabouts for the new settlers to remove almost all traces, even minor traces, of the Delaware Indians existence.
Travelers who live anywhere nearby and who are wanting a relatively inexpensive vacation should consider visiting the Poconos mountains this summer. A weekend here is always a refreshing experience. Vacationers can both learn about the great culture of the U.S. and take advantage of some of the most precious and wonderful outdoor settings in the nation. This region really is an American gem.
