Spending The Festive Season In The Smoky Mountains

Whilst traditional family vacations bring home thoughts of warmth, the lapping of the sea, and the feel of sand beneath your toes on a white beach, at Christmas time there are few better places to visit than the great smoky mountains of Tennessee.

This destination is a common tourist attraction throughout the year. However, it has a whole different perspective on it around the holiday and festive season. For the more active, the Ober Gatlinburg ski resort offers all the customary snow and winter sports, whilst those looking for scenic beauty and some mesmerising walks need look no further than the gorgeous peaks themselves.

For the animal lovers amongst the visitors, there is some wonderful wildlife to be seen scurrying around the woodland, whilst Ripleys aquarium offers an alternative look on some fantastic ocean dwelling creatures. For the young families, the prize of the region is surely the Christmas Palace, a must for all those entranced by festive cheer.

It is, however, impossible to go to the Smoky Mountains without visiting Clingmans Dome. Standing tall at 6643 feet, it is the highest point in Tennessee. From here you’ll be able to see into seven states from the observation tower, assuming it is a clear day.

Other popular places to see are the Dollywood theme park, an the Space Needle. The latter is particularly exciting for teenagers looking to have some fun in the arcade at the bottom. To say there is something for everyone would be quite an understatement.

Yet the prize piece for the family if you’re seeking festive cheer is the Christmas Palace. Going there is like transporting yourself straight into the North Pole and Lapland. Beautiful light and decorations sparkle all over whilst Santa pops his head around every other corner. Come in December and you’re sure to see the singing Santa captivating children with his wonderful festive songs. There really is no place quite like it for the whole family to enjoy and it would not be surprising if its became a lasting family tradition, staying in your mind long after you are gone.
