The Old Times in Cabo San Lucas
One of the most luxurious holiday destinations in the world, Cabo San Lucas is now a major vacation destination for people worldwide. Some years ago, the place is said to be a haven for pirates.
In the early 1900s, small groups of fishers come to Cabo to fish. Later on, groups of Americans come to the place and put up a fishing platform, until years later, a company named Compania de Productos Marinos was built in the place. This has led to the increase in the number of people living in Cabo San Lucas.
Although the place became inhabited by fishers when the company was put up, there were still a relatively few of them even after the place started to be known for sport fishing way back in the 1930s. It was not very accessible then, as it can only be reached by small planes and yachts, or through a very long dirt road drive.
After the war, Cabo San Lucas became a favorite destination among the elites in California. It was also in this time that Bing Crosby and his companions decided to build an exclusive hotel in the place. It was the first hotel in Cabo San Lucas, constructed in 1950.
In 1974, construction of road projects in Cabo San Lucas took place. The fishing tournaments that are held in Cabo had also attracted the people’s attention worldwide and developers had started sending in resources for the region.
The developments were followed soon after by the construction of an international airport in San Jose del Cabo – Cabo San Lucas’ neighboring city. This made way to more and more visitors coming to the place.
From then on, luxurious hotels and bars mushroomed in the area and it has become known as a great place for vacationers, travelers and tourists. Cruises from the Pacific also come to Cabo to dock. The famous Van Halen member, Sammy Hagar, also put up his bar, Cabo Wabo Cantina that became a favorite nightlife venue in Cabo.
These days, Cabo San Lucas does not only attract people because of its fishing tournaments all year round, but it also has become a place great for golfing, scuba diving, whale watching, helicopter tours and many, many other things. Indeed, it has become a paradise for vacationers and honeymooners from its being a pirate’s den thousand years ago.
