Your Kids Will Love Atlantis Marine World
Atlantis is not just an ancient legendary lost continent. Atlantis Marine World is the only Public Aquarium on Long Island. Just ten years old, itself, this unique aquarium is an especially kid-friendly place to visit.
Visitors of all ages will enjoy creative, engaging exhibits. They will find fun, hands-on activities and adventures. They can get close up with penguins and seals, swim with the fish and dive with the sharks.
There are “Mommy and Me programs for children as young as two years. Hands-on activities are especially designed for curious and active small fry. Kid-friendly guides use stories, music, crafts and live-creature encounters to introduce the little ones to the fascinating life forms in and on the sea.
Older children are offered a wealth of age appropriate activities inside the Aquarium as well as outdoors. Sleepover nights are a big favorite for groups of twenty or more. Activities include a guided tour and talk, crafts, and fish feeding. Kids dine on pizza and wake to muffins and bagels.
A variety of camps and outdoor programs are also available. Kids hike or boat through a variety of ecosystems. 9-14 year olds can participate in the Scientist for a Day program. They will collect and record data using the same methods and equipment that real scientists use.
But Long Island’s Marine World is not just for kids. Adults will be equally intrigued by the many fascinating and informative exhibits. There are also special walking and canoeing tours for adults that focus on particular plants, animals and habitats.
In warm weather the Atlantis tour boat offers a Saturday night cruise on the Peconic river with wine and cheese. The aquarium is a fabulous venue for weddings and other social and corporate events. A variety of catering options are available.
The aquarium also houses an active rescue center run by a not-for-profit foundation. Their mission is to rescue and rehabilitate injured or sick endangered animals such as whales, dolphins and sea turtles. Visitors can visit the hospital and see recovering creatures being prepared to return to the wild.
